Horbury Library (3)
by Janet Taylor
The Horbury Tapestry celebrates 100 years of our Carnegie Library. This is largest piece, stitched by Janet Taylor herself. It shows a mixture of transfer of a photograph and stitching, including along the mortar lines in the brickwork. The trees are machine stitched on a dissolvable fabric, giving a 3D effect. The colourful flowers in the splendid hanging baskets are made using French knots. Janet used white thread to highlight the ironwork on the gate. The message Knowledge is Power is machine stitched on fabric. A real tour de force highlighting the library as the central focus of the tapestry.
