Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould

Sabine Baring Gould, curate at St Peter’s Church, who later became squire of his family property in Devon. He established a mission, based in a small cottage, to serve the workers in the mills, miners, watermen and their families at Horbury Bridge. There he met and married Grace Taylor, the daughter of a Horbury mill hand who had herself worked at Poppleton’s mill at Horbury Bridge. His novel Through Flood and Flame, (1868) although located near Halifax, drew on their experiences of Horbury. Embroidered in petit point by Margaret Parkin.
