Daniel Gaskell, Wakefield’s first MP who lived at Lupset Hall. In 1843 he founded a school in Horbury  located on the corner  of New Road and New Street.  That closed in 1923 .  The Daniel Gaskell Educational Trust still gives grants to schools and individuals living in Horbury.
